Role of GP Liaison Nurse in A&E

The GP Liaison Nurse is the direct link to the emergency department for the General Practitioners and other Primary Care Providers.

Communication is central to the role

The aim is to provide efficient and timely communication to the GP’s and other Primary Care Providers.

The GP Liaison nurse in the emergency department can be contacted directly thus assisting in the appropriate referral process.

Discharge summaries and test results are provided ensuring continuity of care when a patient is back in the care of the community.

This two way communication process between the Emergency Department and the primary care providers improves the quality of patient care.
